Chris Batha’s Driven Pheasant
Shoot in The Scottish Borders
October 8 – October 14, 2023
Chris Batha invites you to join him in the Scottish Borders for some of the most exciting Driven Pheasant Shoots in Scotland. You arrive into Edinburgh, Scotland and then it is a short drive (just over an hour) to the fabled Scottish Borders.
Driven Pheasants on Four Scottish Estates
The Scottish Borders are widely known to be some of the best locations for Driven Pheasant Shooting in the UK. The high, testing Pheasant will present a challenge to any Gun and as we shoot at four different venues, there is plenty of opportunity to get the bag.
A Team of 8 Guns will shoot four 300 Bird Days on four different Shoots – Thirlstane Castle, The Greenhill Shoot, Bowmont Valley and Longcroft. I guarantee you will be challenged and delighted by the quality and quantity of these magnificent birds!
The Shoots
Thirlestane Castle – 300 Birds
Thirlestane Castle is the ancestral home of The Earls of Lauderdale and is currently owned by The Honourable Gerald Maitland-Carew. Located on the southwest edge of the Lammermuir Hill, the terrain is extremely varied and provides the finest quality of challenging Driven Pheasant drives.
The combination of mature pinewoods and strategically-planted new cover crops makes this one of our most memorable shoots.
The Greenhill Shoot – 300 Birds
The Greenhill Estate, owned by The Duke of Roxburghe, is in the valley west of the Bowmont Valley, south of Hownam Village. While the fields are not as wooded as Bowmont, the varying heights of the valleys and the rolling terrain lends itself to some exceptional Pheasant drives. The resident population of wild goats are enthusiastic spectators – another reason this shoot is a special experience.
Bowmont Valley – 300 Birds
The Bowmont Valley Shoot is also owned by The Duke of Roxburghe and lends its name to his eldest son, Lord Bowmont. The Shoot is situated in the foothill of The Cheviots, just south of the Town of Yetholm, southeast of Kelso and Floors Castle. The terrain is very high and rugged and provides excellent shooting from mature pine forests, game crops and braken beds. For High Pheasant and fabulous scenery, it gets no better than the Bowmont Valley.
Longcroft – 300 Birds
For extreme Partridge and Pheasant, Longcroft has to be seen to be believed! Set in the steep valleys on the edge of the Lammermuirs, the stunning scenery is matched by the fabulous shooting. There are more than 20 named drives, all of which provide a 5 Star Shooting Experience with both quality and quantity of high-flying Birds.
